Everything Pigs in a Blanket with Brown Sugar-Honey Mustard

    Source of Recipe

From "Love Welcome Serve" by Amy Nelson Hannon

    Recipe Introduction

"Pigs in a blanket with yellow mustard are a childhood favorite. Okay, they're an adult favorite, too, if we're being honest with each other. Even Ina Garten has been known to claim that she loves to serve them at get-togethers! Well, these Everything Pigs in a Blankets are the grown-up version of that childhood favorite. They are perfect for watch parties. Each pig is smothered in melted butter seasoned with an 'everything bagel' mix of poppy seeds, dried onions, garlic, and more. The brown sugar-honey mustard is sweet, tangy, and sooo good."

    List of Ingredients

    â—¦ 16 tablespoons (2 sticks) unsalted butter
    â—¦ 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
â—¦ 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
    â—¦ 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
    â—¦ ½ teaspoon dry mustard
    â—¦ Red pepper flakes
â—¦ 2 (8-ounce) tubes refrigerated crescent dough sheets (not triangles)
    â—¦ 2 (12-ounce) packages cocktail smokies

    For the sauce:
    â—¦ ½ cup Dijon-style mustard
    â—¦ 1 teaspoon stone-ground mustard
    â—¦ 5 tablespoons brown sugar
    â—¦ 3 teaspoons honey
    â—¦ â…› teaspoon cayenne pepper

    Recipe

Set the oven to 375° F.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the poppy seeds, dried minced onion, granulated garlic, dry mustard, and several shakes of red pepper flakes. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside.

Place a sheet of parchment paper on your work surface and roll out one crescent dough sheet. Cut the sheet in half down the center, then cut those two pieces in half the other way. Continue making vertical and horizontal cuts until you have 32 small strips (about 1 ½ inches long). Drain and pat dry one package of cocktail smokies and wrap each smokie in a piece of dough. Line them up on a sheet pan, seam-side down. Repeat with the remaining dough sheet and smokies on another sheet pan.

Whisk the seasoned butter mixture, stirring up the goodness that has settled to the bottom. Spoon a little over each wrapped smokie, making sure to dig down deep into the butter mixture so all the smokies have a little onion, garlic, and poppy seed on top! The butter will pour down the sides and pool below the smokies, which creates buttery magic when they're finished baking. Bake for 14 to 15 minutes, or until they're golden. Allow to cool for several minutes before transferring to a serving platter.

Meanwhile, whisk together the mustards, brown sugar, honey, and cayenne in a bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Taste and adjust the seasonings. Serve with the warm pigs in a blanket.

    Makes about 64
