    Maple Pigs in a Blanket

    Source of Recipe

From "Mad Hungry: Family" by Lucinda Quinn

    Recipe Introduction

"Almost everyone loves a good pig in a blanket. These piglets make a pop-in-your-mouth breakfast snack just as easily as they do a cocktail nibble. Store-bought puff pastry pulled from the freezer is your flaky friend, as it will thaw in 30 minutes and be ready to roll, stuff, wrap, or layer."

    List of Ingredients

â—¦ 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed according to package instructions
â—¦ 2 tablespoons maple syrup, plus more for serving
â—¦ 18 cooked small breakfast sausage links (about 1 pound)
    â—¦ 1 large egg

    Recipe

Preheat the oven to 425° F with the rack in the center position. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, foil, or a silicone baking pad.

Roll out the puff pastry to a 12-inch square. Brush the maple syrup over the entire surface of the pastry. Cut the dough into thirds and then into thirds again to form 9 squares. Cut each square in half diagonally to make 18 triangles.

Place a breakfast sausage link on the lower third of each triangle and roll up, making sure to place each bundle seam-side down on the lined baking sheet. Whisk together the egg and 1 teaspoon water in a small bowl. Brush each bundle with egg wash and bake until golden brown, 16 to 18 minutes.

Serve immediately with maple syrup on the side.

    Makes 18 pieces
