    Baby's Bottom Balm

    Source of Recipe

From "Pure Skin Care" by Stephanie Tourles

    Recipe Introduction

"I originally created this balm for infants and small children to protect against diaper rash and soothe occasional bouts of dermatitis, but I've discovered that it also makes a great 'ski balm' or barrier balm for times when your skin is going to be exposed to cold, dry air or cold, windy weather. It also makes a great treatment for ragged cuticles and conditions cracked heels, elbows, and rough knees or other dry or rashy skin."

    List of Ingredients

â—¦ 2 tablespoons almond, sunflower, extra-virgin olive oil, or jojoba oil
    â—¦ 1 tablespoon cocoa butter
â—¦ 1 tablespoon shea butter (refined or unrefined)
â—¦ 1 teaspoon beeswax or vegetable emulsifying wax
    â—¦ 1 capsule 200 IU vitamin E oil
â—¦ 2 to 4 drops Roman chamomile, lavender, or sweet orange essential oil

    Recipe

In a small saucepan over low heat or in a double boiler, warm the almond oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, and beeswax until the solids are just melted. Remove from the heat and gently stir with a small spoon for about 1 minute, then allow the mixture to cool for about 5 minutes.

Add the vitamin E oil (pierce the capsule skin and squeeze out the contents) and essential oil and stir again to thoroughly blend.

Pour into storage container(s) and cap, label, and date. Allow it to set overnight to give the cocoa and shea butters plenty of time to completely harden.

    Makes ¼ cup

    • To Store:
No refrigeration is required, but for maximum freshness and potency, please use within 1 year. Store in a dark, cool cabinet.

    • To Apply:
A little goes a long way, so be judicious with the quantity you apply. This balm can be applied wherever your skin is dry or moisture needs to be sealed in and dehydrating air sealed out. The balm performs best when applied over slightly damp skin. Use as desired.
