    Coconut Cloud Cream

    Source of Recipe

From "Natural Beauty at Home" by Janice Cox

    Recipe Introduction

"This is a light and fluffy cream that provides all the skin-nourishing qualities of coconut oil in a less oily form. I love to use this cream in the winter because the light coconut scent reminds me of summer and beach vacations. It is especially nice rubbed into warm skin after a bath or shower. Some women even put this cream in their hair for extra shine and conditioning. (I would suggest this only for people with very short hair.)"

    List of Ingredients

â—¦ 2 tablespoons stearic acid powder
    â—¦ ¼ cup coconut oil
    â—¦ ½ teaspoon baking soda
    â—¦ ½ cup distilled water
â—¦ A few drops coconut fragrance (optional)

    Recipe

Melt the stearic acid and the oil together. You can do this in a water bath on the stovetop. Dissolve the baking soda in the distilled water and heat almost to boiling. (Put the solution in the microwave for about 1 minute on high, or heat in a water bath on the stovetop.)

Stir the water solution slowly into the stearic acid-oil mixture. The mixture will foam up in volume (almost double); stir thoroughly.

Cool this mixture completely. When cool, add a few drops of coconut fragrance if you want a stronger scent (coconut oil already has a light coconut scent), and stir. Pour into an airtight jar and enjoy.

    Makes 8 ounces

    • Note:
If you cannot find stearic acid powder, you may substitute 1 tablespoon grated beeswax. Your lotion will not be as light and fluffy, but you will have a very nice skin cream.
