    Baked Penne Casserole

    List of Ingredients


    • One 16-ounce package penne pasta
    • 1/2 pound ground beef
    • 1/2 pound Italian sausage, removed from casings
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
    • 6 to 7 cups homemade spaghetti sauce, or two 26-ounce cans of good spaghetti sauce
    • 6 ounces provolone cheese, sliced or grated
    • 1/2 cup sour cream (or a mixture of half sour cream, half cottage cheese)
    • 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, grated
    • 4 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (approximately)


    Instructions


    1. Cook the pasta and drain it well.

    2. Sauté the onion and meat in in a large skillet or pan big enough to hold all the sauce. Add the garlic, stir, and add the spaghetti sauce. Simmer about 15 minutes. Taste and season as you like. (I often stir in fresh basil and oregano, and a little sugar to taste.)

    3. Arrange in layers in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish in this order: half of the pasta, provolone cheese, sour cream, half of the sauce mixture; remaining pasta, mozzarella cheese, and remaining sauce. Top with lots of fresh grated Parmesan cheese. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes, or until cheese is melted and everything is heated through.
