    Homemade Vanilla Coffee Creamer

    Source of Recipe

From "Pure Vanilla" by Shauna Sever

    List of Ingredients

    • One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
    • 1½ cups milk, half-and-half, or heavy cream
    • 1 whole vanilla bean, split lengthwise
    • Pinch of salt

    Instructions

    1. In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients. Warm over medium heat until mixture is hot and steaming, but not simmering.

    2. Remove from heat, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes.
Strain into a jar or other container with a tight-fitting lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

      Makes about 2 cups

    Final Comments

    • Vanilla coffee creamer is delicious, but you can also use cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, or any combination of spices. Add them when the milk is hot, and give them time to steep along with the vanilla bean. Extracts like peppermint or almond, added to taste right before straining, are fabulous. And of course a few tablespoons of high-quality cocoa powder makes a divine mocha creamer. Pour into cute jars for a fun hostess gift!
