    Nashville-Style Hot Chicken

    Source of Recipe

From "Southern Living: No Taste Like Home"

    Recipe Introduction

"This isn't quite as hot as they serve it in Nashville, but it should get you sweating. If you want it hotter, douse yours with additional hot sauce."

    List of Ingredients

    • ½ cup buttermilk
    • 1 (5-ounce) bottle habanero hot sauce
    • 3 pounds chicken drumsticks
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp salt
    • ¾ tsp black pepper
    • ¾ tsp onion powder
    • Vegetable oil

    Recipe

Whisk together buttermilk and hot sauce in a large bowl. Add chicken. Cover and chill 24 hours.

Combine flour and next 3 ingredients. Remove chicken from buttermilk mixture, discarding mixture. Dredge chicken in flour mixture, shaking off excess.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Pour oil to a depth of 1 inch in a large, deep skillet; heat to 325°F. Fry drumsticks, in batches, 6 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned, turning occasionally. Transfer to a wire rack in a jelly-roll pan. Bake 15 minutes, or until desired degree of doneness.

    Makes 6 to 8 servings
