    Steak and Onion Pie

    Recipe Introduction

I hadn't made this in a long time and did it in September of 2019. I made a few changes. I thought that dicing the onions and mixing them in with the meat made more sense than slicing them and putting them on top of the meat. The potatoes took longer than 10 minutes to get tender. I also found the gravy a little thin and added some Bisto to thicken it up.

    List of Ingredients

    1 c. sliced onions
1 lb. round steak - cut into small pieces
    1/4 c. flour
    1 t. salt
    1/8 t. pepper
    1/2 t. paprika
    dash of ginger
    dash of allspice
    1/4 c. shortening
    2 c. beef stock
    1/2 c. red wine
    2 c. diced raw potatoes
1 pie shell - or 1 sheet puff pastry

    Recipe

Cook onions slowly in butter until translucent. Remove onions from pan. Roll meat in mixture of flour, seasonings and spices. Brown in hot shortening; add wine and stock. Cover.

Simmer for 1 hour or until meat is tender. Add potatoes, cook for 10 minutes longer. Pour into greased 8" casserole. Lay cooked onions on top. Fit pie shell over top; seal edge. Bake at 450 degrees for 25 minutes.

    Serves 6.
