    Can use also use other Traditional Filling called "Lekvar" such as Apricot or Prune Filling. It is a thick filling, so it does not run out of the Kifli. You can buy it or you can make it from scratch. I prefer making it from scratch

    List of Ingredients

    Dough:
    4 C flour
    1 Lb butter
    6 egg yolks
    1/2 pint Sour Cream


    Filling:
    1-1/2 Lb finely chopped walnuts
    6 egg whites
    1 tablespoon lemon juice
    1 lb powdered sugar.

    Recipe

    Mix Flour and butter as for a pie crust. Mix Sour cream and egg yolks, add to to flour/butter mixture. Work until dough is smooth. Form into one big ball. Chill several hours. Form dough into balls the size of a large marble. Chill overnight.

    Filling:

    Beat egg whites until frothy, add powdered sugar, lemon juice... mix thoroughly. Add in finely chopped walnuts.

    Roll dough balls on floured board into paper thin circles.
    Place filling in center. Fold into the shape of a crescent.
    Bake in 350 oven for 18-20 minutes, until slightly brown.

    Wait until cool, dust with powdered sugar.

    Makes about 10 dozen...
