Cocoa Cherry Drops

• 1/2 cup (1 stick) + 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 6 tablespoons HERSHEY'S Cocoa
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup chopped maraschino cherries, well-drained
• 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
• Walnut pieces (optional)
Recipe
Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy; beat in egg and vanilla. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; stir into butter mixture. Stir in cherries and chopped walnuts. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Press walnut piece onto each cookie, if desired. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. About 4 dozen cookies.
