    web

    List of Ingredients

    5 lbs hamburger
    2 small onions, finely chopped
    64 fluid ounces tomato paste
    64 fluid ounces tomato puree
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1/3 cup cider vinegar
    2 tablespoons chili powder
    1 tablespoon pepper
    1 tablespoon celery seed
    3 tablespoons salt, plus
    1 teaspoon salt

    Recipe

Brown hamburger and onions in very large skillet; drain. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer, about 30 minutes uncovered. Stir frequently, as it will tend to stick. Serve with dry minced onions re-hydrated in boiling water (in addition to the sauce). This makes about 12 pints so you could of course reduce it. This freezes well.

    Alternate instructions:
Brown hamburger and onions in a very large skillet; drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 3 1/2 hours, stirring frequently as it will tend to stick. This freezes very well. To get that authentic taste, use only Kogel franks and
re-hydrate dry minced onions in boiling water.
