    ALL PURPOSE SEASONING

    Source of Recipe

unknown but was from a cookbook in my collection

    Recipe Introduction

This mixture of seasonings is excellent to sprinkle on cottage cheese, eggs, tomatoes, potatoes, steamed vegetables, salads or fish. I keep mine in a salt shaker on the table while the salt stays in the cabinet. (I use it on Beef and Pork, too!)

    List of Ingredients

6 TBSP. non fat dry milk powder
2 1/2 TBSP. instant minced onion
    2 TBSP. chicken bouillon granules
    2 tsp. dried parsley flakes
2 tsp. dried thyme leaves, crushed
    3/4 tsp. ground celery seed
    3/4 tsp. paprika
    1/2 tsp. white pepper
    1/4 tsp. garlic powder

    Recipe

Place milk powder, onion, bouillon granules, parsley, thyme, celery seed, paprika, pepper and garlic powder in a blender container. Cover and blend at medium speed until mixture is finely ground, scraping sides of container occasionally. Transfer to a jar with a shaker top. Store in a cool, dry place. To use, sprinkle on cottage cheese, eggs, tomatoes, potatoes, steamed vegetables, salads or fish. Makes about 2/3 cup.

Only 8 calories per teaspoon (1 serving), but has 230 mg sodium per serving. That's almost 10% of the recommended daily allowance. For low sodium, just use a low sodium brand of bouillon granules. The recommended daily allowance for "Low Sodium" is 140 mg or less per serving so the amount I use per day is still well within my doctor ordered Low Sodium requirements anyway, without using low sodium bouillon granules.

I do recommend you buy fresh ingredients to use in this mixture, because 2/3 cup seasoning lasts quite a while. And please, store it in a dry cabinet because moisture and light eventually shorten the mixtures useful life, just as it does for all the older herbs and spices in your cabinet now!

BTW, for a small change in taste, substituting Beef or Vegetable bouillon granules is acceptable, too.
