    Fudgey Chocolate-Oatmeal Bars

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 cup margarine, divided
    • 2 cups brown sugar, packed
    • 2 eggs
    • 4 tsps vanilla, divided
    • 2½ cups flour
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 3 cups quick cooking oats
    • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
    • 2 cups (12 oz) chocolate chips
    • 1 cup sliced almonds, divided


    Instructions


    1. Set aside 2 tbsps margarine. Beat the remaining margarine in a large bowl on medium speed for 30 sec.

    2. Add brown sugar, beat until combined.

    3. Add eggs and 2 tsps of the vanilla.

    4. Stir together flour and baking soda in another large bowl, stir in oats.

    5. Gradually stir flour mixture into beaten mixture. Set aside.

    6. Combine reserved 2 tbsps margarine, condensed milk, and chocolate chips in a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat until chocolate melts, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in ¾ cup of the almonds and remaining 2 tsp of the vanilla.

    7. Press 2/3 (about 3 1/3 cups) of the oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 15x10x1 jelly roll pan. Spread chocolate mixture over the oats mixture.

    8. Using your fingers, dot remaining oat mixture over the chocolate. Sprinkle with remaining ¼ cup almonds.

    9. Bake for 25 minutes at 350F or until top is lightly browned. (Chocolate mixture will still look moist). Cool.
