    Chocolate Chunk Soda Bread

    Source of Recipe

    Nob Hill - Something Extra

    Recipe Introduction

    Prep time: 15 minutes
    Rest time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 35 to 40 minutes

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups flour
1/2 cup chopped bittersweet chocolate or miniature chocolate chips
    1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    1/2 tbsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1 cup buttermilk

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Stir together all ingredients except buttermilk in a medium bowl. Add buttermilk; blend with a fork until well mixed. Place dough on floured board and knead for 2 minutes or until smooth, using additional flour as needed.

Shape dough into a 6-inch round and place on prepared baking sheet; let rest for 10 minutes. With a sharp knife, slash a cross on the top of the loaf.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Makes 1 loaf. Recipe may be doubled.

    Notes:
Crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside, this not-too-sweet bread is fabulous when sliced, toasted and slathered with butter or strawberry cream cheese. It also makes wonderful French toast!
