    Source of Recipe

    Recipe Introduction

This recipe makes 4 loaves of bread. I cut the recipe in half and mixed and kneaded it with my Kitchen Aid. This was my grandma's recipe.

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups oatmeal
    1 cup brown sugar
    2 TBSP salt
    1 cup molasses
    1/2 cup shortening
    1 quart boiling water
    2 pkgs. yeast
    10 to 12 cups flour

    Recipe

Pour boiling water over oats, sugar, molasses and shortening. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup hot water. When oat mixture has cooled, add yeast. Sift flour and add, stirring with a spoon or kneading with hands. Keep adding flour until you have a stiff dough, not sticky. Let rise in warm place. Knead down, let rise again, then put in loaf pans. Bake @ 375 for 45 minutes.
