    A traditional holiday favorite among the Culey family for numerous generations. The threat of "no Date Filled Cookies this year" was a much more effective way to modify unruly behavior than Santa's list of who was naughty or nice.

    List of Ingredients




    4 C Quick Oatmeal
    2 C Brown Sugar (packed)
    1 C Sour Cream
    2 C Shortening or Margarine
    4 C Flour
    3 tsp. Soda


    Filling:
    1 lb. Dates (cut up)
    1 C Water
    2 C Sugar



    Recipe



    Filling Instructions:

    Combine 1 lb. dates with 2 cups of water and 1 cup of sugar. Heat slowly until thick, watching carefully and stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Begin this before starting on the cookies.


    Cookie Instructions:

    Mix sugar and shortening, add dry ingredients except soda. Stir soda into sour cream and add to mixture. Chill dough. Roll out, cut with cookie cutter and place on cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and fill with date mixture. Place 1 spoonful on 1 cookie, carefully press down with another cookie.
