    Old-Time Penuche

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 pounds brown sugar
    • 1 cup evaporated milk
    • 1/4 pound butter
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 cups chopped walnuts


    Instructions


    1. Mix brown sugar, milk, butter, salt and corn syrup. Cook, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Continue cooking to soft ball stage (238ºF.) Remove from heat.
    2. Place pan in a sink with cold water and beat until it starts to thicken. Stir in nuts and vanilla and beat until it loses it's gloss. Immediately pour into a 9"x9" buttered baking pan. When firm cut into squares.
    3. Makes 3 pounds.
