    Marie's Doughnut Twists

Recipe By : Sandy's Recipe Journal
    Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00
    Categories : Breads

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    1 cup margarine -- melted
    3/4 cup sugar
    4 eggs
    1 teaspoon salt
    3 packages active dry yeast
    1/2 cup warm water
    1 1/2 cups milk -- warmed
    8 cups all-purpose flour

    2 cups confectioner's sugar
    1/3 cup milk
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Mix together the margarine, sugar, eggs and salt. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to the egg mixture. Add the warm milk and flour and mix well. Cover and let rise until doubled. Knead small amount of flour into dough so that it handles well. Divide into 5 portions; roll each portion into a rectangle and then cut into 12 strips and twist.
Fry in deep hot oil (375 F.), turning once until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and dip in hot glaze; or they can be rolled in sugar, if desired.

For Glaze: Combine confectioner's sugar, 1/3 cup milk and vanilla; bring to a simmer and dip hot twists in it. Then drain on a rack (place waxed paper underneath to catch drips).
