    These are a favorite of mine. A soft cookie with that favorite "brownie" flavor, enhanced with cherries.

    List of Ingredients




    3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
    l-l/2 teaspoons baking powder
    l/8 teaspoon salt
    4 squares unsweetened chocolate (1-oz.each)
    2/3 cup butter or margarine
    3 eggs
    2 cups sugar
    1 cup flaked coconut
    1 cup diced maraschino cherries with 2 tablespoons liquid

    Recipe



    1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt onto waxed paper.
    2. Melt chocolate with butter or margarine in the top of a double boiler over simmering water; remove from heat; cool to lukewarm.
    3. Beat eggs with sugar in a large bowl; stir in chocolate mixture until well blended. Add flour mixture, about l/3 at a time, blending well. Fold in coconut, cherries and cherry liquid.
    4. Drop by level tablespoonfuls, l inch apart, onto greased cooky sheets.
    5. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) l8 minutes or just until firm. Remove from cooky sheets; cool completely on wire racks.

    Makes about 5 dozen
