    List of Ingredients

    1 pkg. (11-oz) caramel candies, such as Kraft, unwrapped
    6 cups sliced, peeled and cored Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples, about 2 lbs
    1 T. fresh lemon juice
    2 T. + 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    9" unbaked pie shell
    3 T. packed light or dark brown sugar
    1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1/4 tsp. salt
    6 T. butter
    1/2 cup chopped pecans


    Preheat oven to 375F. Combine caramels and 2 tsp. water in top of double boiler and cook and stir over low heat until caramels melt and mixture is smooth; remove from heat and set aside.

    In large bowl, sprinkle apples with lemon juice, then 2 T. flour: toss to combine. Layer apple mixture in unbaked pie shell alternately with layers of melted caramel; set aside.

    In separate bowl, combine remaining 3/4 cup flour with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or two knives; stir in pecans. Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples. Bake 40-50 minutes or until apples are tender. Let cool at least 2 hours before serving.

    Serves 8
