1 can cherry pie filling
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
3 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup softened butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 1/4 cups milk
In a medium bowl, blend pie filling, nuts and almond extract; set aside. With a rubber spatula, "ripple" thru cake batter below:
In a large bowl, blend dry ingredients. Add eggs gradually with milk and mix well.
"Ripple" cherry mixture thru batter. Pour into greased and floured 9x13-inch pan and bake in preheated 350 F. oven for 20 to 30 minutes.
Creamy Butter Frosting: Mix 1 cup sugar, 2/3 cup flour and 1 cup milk in saucepan.
Blend well and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it boils and thickens.
Remove from heat and cool 5-10 minutes, or room temperature. Slowly beat in 3/4 cup soft butter that has been beaten until fluffy in a small bowl. Beat until mixture is creamy. Spread on cooled cake.
