    List of Ingredients


    • For the Cake:
    • 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
    • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) buter softened
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 2 ounces red food coloring
    • 1 teaspoon distilled white vinger
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • For Frosting:
    • 1 8ounce package cream cheese, softened
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter or margarine, softened
    • 1 pound powder sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup pecans


    Instructions


    1. For the cake; preheat oven to 350.

    2. Grease and flour 2 9-inch pans.

    3. In a meduim bowl or on a piece of wax paper, sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; Set aside.

    4. In large bowl, cream together sugar and butter. Beat in eggs on at a time.

    5. Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk.

    6. Beat in food coloring and vinger, then add vanilla.

    7. Spread batter evenly in the pans.

    8. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

    9. Trun out onto rack to cool.

    10. For Frosting; In a large bowl cream the cream cheese and butter.

    11. Beat in powder sugar until fluffy.

    12. Beat in vanilla.

    13. Stir in pecans.

    14. When cake is totally cool, then frost.

    15. Yeild; 8 servings
