    Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs

    Source of Recipe

    March 20, 1971 - Local Newspaper's small cookbook.

    Recipe Introduction

I got this original recipe from the above newspaper. It calls for ribs, but I have made it with chicken and pieces of boneless pork. I also serve with steamed rice or fried rice.
I have to save it as the newspaper cookbook is falling apart, and it is one of my families favourite recipes.

    List of Ingredients

    Main part:-
1-1/2 to 2 pounds spare ribs
    2 eggs, beaten
    salt and pepper
    garlic salt
    flour

    Sauce:-
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup ketchup
    1-1/2 cups cold water
    1/4 cup white vinegar

1-1/2 tablespoons corn flour (cornstarch) mixed in a little water.

    Recipe

    Preheat oven to 350ºF.

    Cut spare ribs in pieces.
Beat eggs to which you add salt, pepper and a pinch of garlic. Dip ribs in egg mixture, then roll in flour.

Fry in pan until slightly brown; remove from pan and put in casserole.

Put all ingredients for sauce in a saucepan and simmer unti it thickens. Then our over ribs in casserole, and bake in preheated oven for 1-1/2 hours.

Serve with salad, mashed potatoes and table wine.
