Beans: Southwestern Beef and Beans

1 pound dried pinto beans
6 cups cold water
1/2 pound salt pork, cut up
1 pound lean chuck steak, cubed
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves minced garlic
6 ounces tomato paste
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cumin seed
1/2 teaspoon marjoram
Recipe
Soak beans in water overnight. Brown salt pork in skillet or slow-cooking pot with browning unit. In slow-cooking pot, combine soaked beans (with water), browned pork, and remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 9 to 10 hours.
