Beef: Swiss Steak and Gravy

6 8 ounce beef cubed steaks
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 small onion -- chopped (1/4 cup)
1 6 ounce jar sliced mushrooms -- undrained
2 10 3/4 ounce condensed golden mushroom soup
Recipe
Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. Place beef in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, sprinkling onion and mushrooms with liquid between layers of beef. Pour soup over beef. Cover and cook on low heat setting 7 to 8 hours or until beef is tender. 6 servings.
SUBSTITUTION: Two cups sliced fresh mushrooms can be used instead of the mushrooms in the jar. No additional liquid is needed.
