Peach: Kentucky Peach Bread

3 cups sliced fresh peaches
6 tablespoons sugar
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 eggs
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Recipe
Place peaches and 6 tbl. sugar into food processor with knife blade; puree. Mixture should yield 2 1/4 c. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon; set aside. Cream sugar with shortening and butter. Add eggs and mix well. Add puree and dry ingredients, mixing until all ingredients are moistened. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Spoon batter into two well greased and lightly floured 9x5 inch loaf pans. Bake at 325ºF for 55-60 minutes. Cool 10 minutes in pan, then turn out onto rack to let cool completely. Makes 2 loaves.
