Rolls: Butter Horn Rolls

1 tablespoon yeast
1 cup warm water
1 cup milk
6 teaspoons shortening
6 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 egg
6 cups flour
melted butter
Recipe
Soften yeast in warm water and set aside. Scald milk and add shortening, sugar, and salt. When cooled to lukewarm, add 1 cup of flour and beat well. Add egg and yeast, mix thoroughly. Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead dough until smooth. Cover and let rise until double in bulk, then knead down.
Divide dough into 3 portions, cover and let rise about 15 minutes. Roll each ball of dough into a circle about 1/4" thick. Cut into pie shaped pieces. Brush each piece with melted butter and roll up, beginning at wide end. Curve into crescent rolls on greased baking sheet. Let rise until double in bulk. Bake at 375ºF for 10-12 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
