    Amish Country Cookbook Vol III

    Mix together until dissolved:
    2 1/2 cups hot water
    2 packages yeast
    Add:
    2 cups oatmeal
    1 tablespoon salt
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    2 tablespoons shortening

    Then add 5 1/2 to 6 c. flour and mix until batter is stiff. Let rise until doubled. Shape into 2 loaves or make into dinner rolls. Bake bread at 450ºF for 50 minutes, until golden brown. Bake rolls at 450ºF for 15-20 minutes.
