    Oat & Barley Cereal

    2 1/2 cups water
    1 cup milk
    3 ounces regular rolled oats
    3 ounces quick cooking barley or barley flakes
    3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
    3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    3 ounces chopped dried fruit (dates, raisns)

    Recipe

    If you want to make this the night before, reheat it the next day in a saucepan with 2 tablespoons of water. Quick cooking barley and barley flakes are available in well stocked grocery and supermarkets. Bring water to boil in a 2 qt saucepan. Stir in oats, barley, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Return to boil; reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Stir in dried fruit. Cook until barley is tender, about 7 minutes longer. Serve hot with milk, if desired, or cover and refrigerate for serving later.
