    Donuts: Cream Sticks

    List of Ingredients

    2 packages yeast
    1 cup warm water
    6 cups flour
    1 cup scalded milk
    1/2 cup butter
    2/3 cup sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon vanilla

    FILLING:
    3 tablespoons flour
    1 cup milk
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup Crisco shortening
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

    FROSTING:
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    4 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    powdered sugar

    Recipe

    Dissolve the yeast in the water, then mix it with the rest of the ingredients to form a dough. Let the dough rise until it is double in size; knead and form it into sticks 3 1/2 inch x 1 1/2 inches. Let it rise again before frying it in deep fat.

    To make filling, cook together the flour and milk. Cream the sugar and Crisco, then add the flour/milk mixture and the vanilla. Cream it well and add the powdered sugar. Slit open the top of the cream sticks to fill them. If desired, frost them with the following frosting. For frosting, mix the first three ingredients and let them come to a boil before allowing them to cool. Add the vanilla and enough icing sugar to make the frosting the right spreading consistency.
