    Tart-Pastry: Baklava *

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup almonds -- whole
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 cup walnuts -- chopped
    1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 box phyllo dough
    1 cup butter -- melted

    Syrup:
    1 cup water
    1 cup sugar
    2 whole cloves
    1 tablespoon lemon juice
    1/4 cup honey

    Recipe

    Put filling ingredients into food processor; process until nuts are finely chopped. Heat oven to 375ºF. Have jellyroll pan ready and brushed with melted butter. Place 18" wax paper on work surface. Completely unfold phyllo. Peel off and place one sheet of phyllo in pan. Brush with melted butter. Repeat with 1/2 of the phyllo, brushing evenly with butter. Cover the rest of phyllo with plastic wrap while working to keep from drying out. Scatter filling evenly over phyllo in pan. Continue layering, brushing each sheet with butter. Cut top layers into small diamonds. Bake 30-35 minutes until golden brown.

    Meanwhile, in medium pan, stir all but honey of syrup ingredients. Bring to boil over high. Reduce to medium low and boil gently without stirring for 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and discard cloves. Stir in honey. Pour over hot baklava, and then cut all the way through. Cool in pan before removing. Store with wax paper between layers. Can freeze.
