Recipe Introduction
The basic recipe is simple and packs a huge chocolate punch. The variations are some alternates that sounded like easy changes for whole new flavor. Get creative with this one.
List of Ingredients
1 box chocolate cake mix (favorite flavor)
2 small packages instant chocolate pudding mix
3 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup chocolate liqueur
1 large tub cool whip, thawed
Recipe
For basic recipe, bake cake according to package directions in 9x13 inch pan. Let cool and then cut into 1" squares. Prepare pudding with milk and chocolate liqueur; refrigerate until firm. For basic recipe, in deep glass bowl layer cake cubes, then chocolate pudding, then cool whip. Repeat layers until you run out of ingredients. Can top with caramel of chocolate ice cream topping if desired.
VARIATIONS:
For peanut butter trifle you can combine 8 oz softned cream cheese, 3/4 c. peanut butter and 1 can sweetened condensed milk until fluffy. Stir in a small package of instant vanilla pudding and 1 1/2 cups of cool whip. Layer this with cake cubes; this would be good with cut up peanut butter cups layered on top of cool whip layers.
For chocolate and fruit trifle, make as in basic recipe but add in layers of sliced fresh strawberries, or thawed sweetened frozen strawberries or raspberries (over cake layer under pudding).
For Mocha trifle, use kahlua in place of chocolate liqueur. Can also use mocha cake mix and layer in drizzle of mocha chocolate fudge sauce.
