Devilish Desserts: Southern Sweet Potato Pecan Pie

unbaked 9" pie shell
1 pound sweet potatoes, cook and peel
1/4 cup butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
TOPPING:
1 egg
3 tablespoons dark corn syrup
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon pure maple syrup
1 cup chopped pecans
Recipe
Preheat oven to 350ºF. In a large mixing bowl, beat hot sweet potatoes with butter until smooth. Add remaining ingredients except pastry shell and pecan topping; mix well. Pour into pastry shell and bake for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except for pecans for Pecan Topping, mixing well. Stir in 1 cup chopped pecans. Remove pie from oven and spoon topping evenly over surface of pie. Return to oven and bake for 20-25 minutes longer or until golden brown. Cool. Serve warm or chilled.
