Desserts-Pie: Pennsylvania Dutch Molasses Crumb Pie

1 cup molasses
2 cups boiling water
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup brown sugar
2 unbaked 9 inch deep dish pie crusts
CRUMBS:
2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch salt
Recipe
Beat egg slightly; add dry ingredients and then stir in molasses and boiling water. Put in refrigerator and chill while making and crumbs. Mix dry ingredients and shortening into fine crumbs. Alternate crumbs and liquid in unbaked pie shell, starting and ending with crumbs. Bake in 375ºF oven for 35 minutes. Makes two deep 9 inch pies.
