Beef Kofta in Cream Sauce

2 pounds lean ground beef
2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 teaspoon grated gingerroot
2 chili peppers finely chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
1 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1 1/2 teaspoons garam masala
1 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon mango powder
1 teaspoon salt
Cream Sauce (below) Recipe
Spray a 9x9-inch baking pan with non-stick vegetable spray.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, cream, gingerroot, chilies, garlic, coriander, garam masala, cumin, mango powder, and salt; mix thoroughly. Shape into walnut-size balls. Place in the top of a double boiler. Place over a pan of boiling water; cover and steam for 20 minutes. Remove kofta from steamer; place in a oven-proof dish. Set aside.
CREAM SAUCE
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 chili peppers, finely chopped
2 bay leaves
2 teaspoons grated gingerroot
3 cloves garlic
1-1/4 cups heavy cream
1-1/4 teaspoons ground coriander
1-1/4 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon mango powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1 bunch cilantro, finely chopped
Preheat oven to 300°F.
In a medium saucepan, heat oil; add cumin seeds, bay leaves, ginger, chilies, and garlic. Cook for 2 minutes. Stir in cream, coriander, cumin, mango powder, turmeric and garam masala; cook, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in cilantro. Spoon over kofta; cover tightly.
Bake for 20 minutes.
