Frozen Hamburger Patties

4 lb lean ground beef
3 onions finely chopped
1 sweet green peppers (opt.) finely chopped
1 egg
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
1 dsh hot pepper sauceRecipe
* In large bowl, combine beef, onions, green peppers (if using), egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and hot pepper sauce; using spoon or hands, mix just until combined.
* Using ice-cream scoop or hands, divide mixture into 20 portions; shape each portion into round patty. Place patties on baking sheets and freeze until solid, 4 to 5 hours. Stack patties with foil or paper plates between them. Package in freezer bags and store up to 4 months in freezer.
* Makes 20 patties.
* To broil, place frozen patties on grill 3 to 4 inches (8 to 10 cm) from broiler. Broil for about 5 minutes on each side or until browned and to desired doneness.
* NOTES : "Until I was assigned an article on using frozen hamburger patties for Canadian Living's Food magazine, I didn't realize what a convenience it would be to have these on hand. It doesn't take long to make hamburger patties, and they are much easier to use than a block of frozen meat. Lean ground pork or lamb also make tasty patties, and they can be combined with beef."
