    3 pounds round steak, cut into cubes
    2 medium onions, sliced
    6 tablespoons butter
    1/2 cup flour
    1 1/2 cups hot water
    1 cup beer
    2 teaspoons salt
    1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 bay leaf
    1/2 teaspoon sugar
    1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/4 teaspoon oregano
    1 1/2 teaspoons vinegar

    Brown meat in 2 tablespoons margarine; transfer to casserole dish. Add 2 tablespoons margarine and onions. Fry until golden. Add to beef. Add the last 2 tablespoons margarine. Stir in flour and spice mixture. (Add more margarine if necessary as this mixture will be dry.) Stir until brown. Add beer, water and vinegar. Pour over meat and onions. Bake 2 hours at 350ºF. Serve over hot buttered noodles.
