Swiss Custard Casserole

List of Ingredients
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
1/2 cup dry white wine
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
4 slices thin white bread buttered and crusts removed
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese or
1 cup Swiss and 1 cup cheddar
Chopped scallions (optional)
Diced ham (optional)
1/2 cup sauteed mushrooms (optional) Recipe
In a medium bowl, mix together eggs, half-and-half, wine, salt and mustard. Set aside. Place slices of buttered bread in the bottom of a baking dish (use more than 1 if necessary), making sure bottom is completely covered. Spread shredded cheese over bread only. Pour egg mixture over bread and cheese. Cover and chill overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Before baking, top with chopped scallions, diced ham, sauteed mushrooms or any combination. Bake for 45 minutes and serve. Serves 6 to 8
