Asparagus: Asparagus Cream Soup

2 tablespoons shortening
1/4 cup onion, chopped
2-10 ounces packages frozen cut asparagus
1 cup chicken broth
4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
2-1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 drops tabasco Recipe
Melt Crisco in a saucepan, add onion, and cook until onion is tender. Add frozen asparagus and chicken broth to the saucepan, cook uncovered for 10 minutes over high heat. Transfer mixture to a blender and puree. Add beaten egg yolks. Return mixture to saucepan and stir in milk, salt, pepper, and Tabasco. Reheat before serving, do not boil.
