Fresh Green Bean Soup

ham bone
3 cups water
3 slices bacon cooked crisp and crumbled, reserve grease
1/2 cup diced onion
1 clove garlic crushed
1/2 cup carrot
salt & pepper, to taste
1 pound fresh green beans, washed and cut into 1/2 inch pieces.

In soup pot cook ham bone in water for 1 hour. In skillet add onion, garlic, and carrots to 2 tablespoons bacon grease. Add vegetables to soup pot and cook for 1 hour. Add green beans and cook another 20 minutes. Remove ham bone. Add half and half. Heat through but do not boil. Makes enough for 4 one cup servings. Note: You can use frozen green beans, but not canned.
