Pasta: Annie's Macaroni & Cheese Soup

2-1/2 cups water
1-10 ounce package frozen peas and carrots, thawed
1 package macaroni-and-cheese mix
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
4 cups milk
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Recipe
In a soup pot, bring the water to a boil over high heat. Stir in the peas and carrots, the macaroni reserving the cheese packet, salt, and pepper. Return to a boil, cover loosely, and cook for 5 minutes.
Add the remaining ingredients, including the reserved cheese packet. Reduce the heat to medium, cover loosely, and simmer for 10 minutes, or until hot and creamy, stirring occasionally.
