    The 1854 Wright House Bed & Breakfast

    2 1/2 C. all purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 C. sugar
    3/4 C. half and half
    1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 C. cold butter
    3/4 C. dried cranberries
    1 large egg

    Recipe



    Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. (I blend in butter with my fingers). Stir in sugar and cranberries. Mix together half & half, egg, and grated orange peel until smooth. Combine with dry mixture until just moistened.

    Turn onto floured board, knead 8-10 times until smooth. Divide dough in half, forming into 7 in. circles, sprinkle with topping mixture. Place on a large ungreased baking sheet, score into 8 wedges each. Bake @ 375 for 20 - 25 minutes. Test for doneness.

    Topping: 1/4 c. sugar & 1 1/2 tsp. grated orange zest. Mix sugar & zest together.
    Almond butter: Cream together 1/2 C. butter, 2 T. powdered sugar, 1/2 t. almond extract.
