    List of Ingredients

    3 cups flour
    3 tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 cup cold butter -- cut in pieces
1/2 cup dried currants -- optional
    1 egg
    3/4 Cup milk or half-and-half
glaze of 1 egg and 1 Tbsp sugar

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 400ºF. In a food processor or a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Stir in currants or nuts if desired. Beat egg with milk and add all at once to flour mixture. Process or stir just until mixture comes together in a sticky mass. Transfer mixture to a work table and knead briefly to form dough. Divide dough in half and pat each half into a 5-inch circle. Cut each circle into six wedges and arrange wedges on an ungreased baking sheet. Brush, if desired, with beaten egg and sugar. Bake on the uppermost rack of the oven for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
