Butter Busters
List of Ingredients
2 tablespoons liquid butter buds or chicken broth
3/4 cup minced onion
1 1/2 cups chopped celery
1 cup liquid butter buds
9 cups soft bread cubes (fat free bread)
1 1/2 teaspoons lite salt
1 1/2 teaspoons crushed sage leaves
1 teaspoon thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Recipe
In large skillet, in two Tbl. liquid butter buds or chicken broth, cook and stir onion and celery til onion is tender. Stir in about 1/3 of bread cubes. Turn into a deep bowl. Add remaining ingredients and toss. Bake in the turkey or a casserole dish that has been covered. If doing as casserole, bake at 325 ºF for 30-40 minutes.
Variations:
Apple raisin stuffing: Decrease bread to 7 cups and increase salt to 1 tsp. Add 3 b. of finely chopped apples and 3/4 c. raisins with remaining ingredients.
Cornbread stuffing: Omit soft bread cubes and substitute cornbread cubes.
Oyster Stuffing: Decrease bread cubes to 8 c. and add 2 cans of oysters, drained and chopped, with remaining ingredients.
