    Caramel: Caramel Layer Choco-Squares

    List of Ingredients

    1 can evaporated milk (5 oz)
    1 package caramels, unwrapped
    1 package pudding included German chocolate cake mix
    1 cup chopped nuts
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    1 cup chocolate chips

    Recipe

    Heat oven to 350ºF. Reserve 2 tbl. evaporated milk for cake mixture. In medium saucepan, combine caramels with remaining evaporated milk. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat.

    In large bowl, combine cake mix, nuts, butter and reserved 2 tbl. evaporated milk; mix at low speed until crumbly. Press half of dough mixture into bottom of ungreased 13x9 pan; reserve remaining dough mix for topping. Bake at 350ºF for 8 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over top. Carefully spread caramel over chocolate chips. Crumble reserved dough mixture over caramel mixture. Return to oven; bake an additional 15-18 minutes or until filling is set. Cool completely; cut into bars.
