    Caramel: Caramel Layers

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 c Flour
    1/2 t Soda
    1/2 c Butter
    24 Light candy caramels
    2 tb Cream
    1/4 t Salt
    1/2 c Brown sugar -- firmly packed
    1/2 c Chocolate chips -- or
    Butterscotch chips
    3/4 c Quick cooking oats

    Recipe

    Combine in mixing bowl flour, salt, soda, brown sugar and rolled oats. Cut in butter until particles are fine. Reserve 1 cup. Press remaining mixture into the bottom of greased 8-inch pan. Bake at 350ºF for 10 minutes. Combine caramels and cream in top of double boiler; cook over boiling water until caramels melt. Spread carefully over base. Sprinkle with chocolate or butterscotch chips; then add reserved crumb mixture. Bake at 350ºF 12-15 minutes. Cool; cut into bars.
