    2 cups brown sugar
    2 cups flour
    1 cup milk
    1 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1 egg beaten
    1/2 cup butter
    1 teaspoon mixed spice

    Recipe



    Combine sugar, flour and baking powder. Rub in butter until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Place half this mixture in a greased Swiss roll tin, pressing down firmly. To the other half add the milk in which the soda has been dissolved, nutmeg, spice and egg. Pour on top of mixture in tin. Bake at 350ºF for 30 minutes.
