    Chocolate: Sinful Mint Bars *

    List of Ingredients

    CRUST:
    1 package dark chocolate cake mix
    1 egg
    1/3 cup softened butter
    1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract

    FILLING:
    1/2 cup softened butter
    1/2 cup shortening
    1/4 cup water
    1 envelope unflavored gelatin
    1 pound powdered sugar
    1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
    few drops green food coloring

    FROSTING:
    6 ounces chocolate chips
    4 tablespoons butter

    Recipe

    For crust, mix together with pastry blender or fork until crumbly. Press on bottom of greased 13 X 9" pan. Bake at 350ºF for 10 minutes. Cool.

    For filling: mix butter, shortening, extract and 1/2 of sugar. Soften gelatin in 1/4 C. hot water and mix IMMEDIATELY with other ingredients (if you don't do it right away, you get lumps of gelatin). Add green food coloring and remaining sugar and mix until well blended. Spread on cooled crust. Let stand in fridge for awhile to firm.

    Frosting: Melt chips and butter together. Spread on top of filling. Cool. Cut into squares of desired size (I cut 13 X 9" pan into 40 squares).
