Devils Food: Double Devil's Food Cake

List of Ingredients
2 cups sugar
2/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup cocoa
3 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Recipe
Mix cocoa with baking soda. Add boiling water, mix well and let stand 1/2 hour. Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy (note- this mixture will look crumbly). Seperate the egg yolks from the whites, and set the whites aside. Add the eggs to the sugar and shortening, mix well. Add the flour and the cocoa mixture alternatley. Add vanilla and salt, mix well. Add buttermilk and mix well. Beat the eggwhites until stiff, add to the batter last, folding them into the batter. Pour into 3 8 in.cake pans and cook for 1/2 hour. Frost with your favorite frosting.
Side note- I like to use this recipe as the frosting. Cake must be refrigerated when using this frosting.
2 cup heavy whipping cream
4 Tbsp Creme De Cacao
2-3 Tbsp Cocoa
3 Tbsp sugar
Beat all ingredients together until stiff peaks are formed.
