Chocolate: Extra Rich Chocolate Cake

2 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
12 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons sugar
4 eggs beaten well
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup boiling water


Recipe

Sift flour once. Measure and add soda, cocoa and salt. Sift together 3 times. Cream butter; add sugar and cream until light. Add eggs, then cream again. Add flour and buttermilk alternately. Add vanilla and boiling water. Bake in greased pans at 375ºF until done. Yields four 8" layers.
